The Pickup is screwed and brazed to the ignition base plate, a little black box. Inside the box is a wire coil, that’s why it’s sometimes known as a coil. It’s counterpart is a revolving magnet set in the wheel. When the magnet moves over the pickup a contact free low voltage current is induced and sent on further to the CDI. The CDI then conducts a powerful impulse to the spark plug through the ignition cable  and spark plug socket to the spark plug which in turn sparks your ignition.
